Spring 2017 saw the aerial shooting for Naik Media of a commercial for Gola Active – ‘Lake District’ in the fabulous backdrop of Northern Lake District at a spot overlooking Ullswater. The weather could not have been better.
The Shoot
With the crew in place and iron man triathlete ready the shoot began.
Two drones were used the DJI Mavic and DJI Inspire with X5 camera and multiple lenses. The Mavic came into its own with close up tracking shots. The Inspire was used for the hero shots.
Drone Failure
During the afternoon further tracking shots were required in particular close parallel tracking. The Mavic was fired up however the camera failed to focus despite all efforts. The Inspire was called upon and with manual flying the parallel tracking shots were acquired.
In the Bag
All aerial filming was completed from one location, this had the benefit that all equipment and charging systems could be left and used continually. All in all, we were on location for around 9hrs.
The Edit
Adrian from Naik Media carried out the full edit for Gola and I’m sure you will agree the final result looks fantastic.

This video was our first of three with vintage & active shoe company Gola. Shot in spring, we arranged filming permission on a stunning estate near Ullswater. With this incredible backdrop we were able to capture some great shots of our model for the day Rob, an iron-man triathlete! We also had some great drone flying by Simon from Skylark Aerial Photography.
Post Note
The Mavic was returned to the supplier and a fault was found with the focusing of the camera. As the drone was only a few weeks old a new unit was sent out as a replacement.
