CAP1789 EU UAS Regulations
Updated regulations for implementation within the UK next year which will be a huge change to all drone operators.
The first (Open Category) is roughly what we work to at the present.
The last (Certified Category) will be in line with a commercial operation of an aircraft and require full pilot licence, pilot licence for radio, medical for pilot and drone registration/service record for drone.
At Skylark we will look to hold this category and add a drone rating to our current fixed wing pilot licence which is normal practice when adding other aircraft type to a pilot licence.
We also already hold a full pilot medical and radio licence at the present time.
Open category
Operations that present a low (or no) risk to third parties.
Operations are conducted in accordance with basic and pre-defined characteristics and are not subject to any further authorisation requirements.
Specific category
Operations that present a greater risk than that of the Open category, or where one or more elements of the operation fall outside the boundaries of the Open category.
Operations will require an operational authorisation from the CAA, based on a safety risk assessment.
Certified category
Operations that present an equivalent risk to that of manned aviation and so will be subjected to the same regulatory regime (i.e. certification of the aircraft, certification of the operator, licensing of the pilot)
