This week, the Lake District Japan Forum is meeting key decision makers from London-based Japanese tour operators in London. The aim is to showcase the very best of what the region has to offer.
To help promote the area from the air, Skylark Aerial Photography has just recently completed aerial filming and editing for a 5 minute film to be shown in London at a major presentation for the Lake District Japan Forum. The aim is to showcase the very best of what the region has to offer by using aerial filming. Because Skylark Aerial Photography is very closely associated with the Cumbrian Tourist Industry it was chosen to produce this high profile film.
Having received the brief from the forum chair committee, the filming of 10 locations and then the edit was completed in under 2 weeks. Bearing in mind the geography of The Lake District and travel involved the film was signed off 2 days before the forum presentations in London.
The aerial filming for the Lake District Japan Forum had to be completed to a very high standard and careful planning took place to maximise the shoot time and fit in with the tourist industry and of course the Cumbrian weather. The National Trust fast tracked the permissions for Wray Castle after agreeing on the time required and the operation. As Skylark Aerial Photography has filmed on National Trust property before and has a very good reputation the permissions arrived from their head office in London within two days. However it was also the local rangers at Wray Castle who smoothed the way to enable the drone to be deployed quickly.

The actual time to complete the film and edit took around 8 man days and just under 16 hours flying of the drone and for those who know their drones the DJI Mavic was used as it was quick to deploy, although the DJI Inspire with X5 camera and Olympus 25mm lens was kept as backup.

“I love the film and think all the time and edits you’ve put in have given us 5 mins of footage to be proud of and perfect for our presentation. I know we will get much more use out of it after Wednesday evening too”.

For many Lake District tourism businesses, Japan is still the number one market for overseas visitors. Therefore the familiarisation trip will not only be an opportunity to discuss new opportunities and create itineraries for future visits, but also the chance for the tour operators to experience what’s on offer for themselves.
The Japan Forum is made up of a team of Lake District businesses who have forged close links with Japanese tour operators over the last 20 years. During this week’s Familiarisation visit the tour operators will meet with Mountain Goat Tours, Rydal Mount & Gardens, Linthwaite House, Lakeside & Haverthwaite Steam Railway, Windermere Lake Cruises, The National Trust, World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel, English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues, Blackwell, The Arts & Crafts House, Brockhole Visitor Centre, Wray Castle, Dalemain, Grasmere Gingerbread, World of Beatrix Potter, Ullswater Steamers and The Lakes Distillery.
