Lake Districts Drone Service.

When you look at the facts and figures for aerial films produced during the last 2 year’s in Cumbria, you soon realise why Skylark Aerial Photography is one of the leading providers of aerial imagery. Over the past 12 months the company has provided aerial work for over 100 customers, edited over 50 videos and flown over of 220hrs for work related deployments in the Lake District. Skylark Aerial Photography has now a steady client base, referral filming and recommendations within the tourist industry, National Trust, National Park Authority, TV (UK & International), Property Filming, Survey & Inspection.

The work provided has been very varied with TV work for BBC, ITN, France2, Australian Channel 7, Germany ZDF.

Survey work for National Trust Greenburn Hydro Electric Scheme and Scottish Woodlands, factory roof inspections,

Film work for the local tourist industry, hotels, digital marketing and sports events such as The Great North Swim and The Great North SwimRun, Mercedes Car Lease Options.

Of course to be able to carry out this work does not come cheap. You really need at least two high end drones to provide a service, lenses, batteries and editing suite. Skylark Aerial Photography has invested in excess of £20,000 on the business including the website. Its no good providing a service with one £500 drone.

To compliment the service an additional hand held gimbal system has been added to the inventory to provide the ability to film where it would be difficult to deploy a drone or add some additional ground based imagery to the shoot.

Lake Districts Drone Service:- Skylark Aerial Photography clients expect a little more that just a drone offering. Skylark Aerial Photography is more than happy to provide location advice, organise permissions on land or property. This year we provided a days location scouting for a large fashion shoot in the Lakes.

Our details are registered with Windermere Lake Cruises, English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues, National Trust, Forestry Commission, National Park Authority and ITV allowing us to deploy much more quickly and safely.

We have also arranged interviews for TV work. On one such occasion France2 required a local sheep farmer to represent a face of the area.  Skylark Aerial Photography was very happy to organise an interview with a local farming family with over 600 years of farming roots in the area. The farmer turned out to be a natural, have a look at the France2 documentary on YouTube the link is attached below.

The success of any drone business in fact any business is having a plan, investing in high quality equipment and making sure your known out there. Networking, social media and high quality website by paying a company to do this. Please do not build your own, a website developer knows all the tricks to get good SEO built in. Tie up with a local business to provide free drone filming. Another operator asked why I did this. My reply is how much do you pay for good marketing?  its the best product placement you can have. At the same time you are fine tuning your filming work, drone flying and editing skills.

Little by little you should begin to get referrals if your work is good and you are willing to go the extra mile. People will also not just think of your company name when they want a drone operator but of the area. Lake Districts Drone Service (Skylark Aerial Photography) becomes a reality when people want a commercial drone operator.

I will be writing a short guide soon on how to set up a drone operating business.
